The Challenge
They had a Tellico Lake view most people build a whole house to get, and the last thing they wanted was a pool fence chopping it into pieces. An older couple on their own, they were not after a sprawling resort either, just a small, private space that was theirs. The usual way to skip a fence is to compromise on safety. They did not want to.
What We Did
The automatic cover did what a fence never could: it kept the pool safe without putting a single rail between them and the water. That one call freed the whole design. With the view protected, we built up instead of out, stone and brick walls that match the house doubled as privacy, and a linear fireplace with three copper scuppers put fire, water, and the sound of moving water into a small footprint without ever crowding the lake.
From Vision to Reality
Design
We started with nothing but grass and a covered patio. The whole plan was drawn around one rule: protect the view. Every wall, elevation, and sightline was set so the lake stays the star.
Build
We excavated, graded, laid a gravel base, then formed and poured a full concrete base and set every piece of travertine in thinset over it. It is the slow way and the right way, no movement, no settling years down the road. ACE resin borders gave the field drainage and a designed edge instead of a flat slab.
Down to the Dock
Then we tied it together. Two elevation-change rooms, a lounge and a fire-pit area, split by a center stair. A custom gate between stone columns. A pool-house that hides the equipment and runs the misting and bug systems. And over a hundred feet of travertine running clean from the patio to the dock, so the whole place reads as one space from the house to the water.
