Backyard Putting Greens

Very close for the putting experience itself. We use dense, fine-bladed putting turf and can tune the roll speed by adjusting the sand infill, more infill for a faster roll, less for slower, plus build in contours, breaks, and multiple cup positions. It will not replicate a full course turf exactly, but for practicing reads and stroke, a well-built backyard green is remarkably true.

Putting green turf runs roughly $24 to $35 per square foot installed, and total project cost depends heavily on size, contouring, and features like bunkers or lighting, with most backyard greens landing well under $70,000 even fully loaded. A simple, smaller green with standard cups and a fringe collar comes in toward the lower end of that range.

Just occasional brushing to keep the fibers standing up correctly and topping up the sand infill over time. There is no watering, mowing, fertilizing, or chemical treatment involved, which is a real advantage over a natural grass putting green that needs constant mowing at an extremely low height and heavy irrigation to stay playable.

It can absolutely have contours, mounding, and breaks built in; that is a lot of what makes a green fun and challenging to putt on rather than just a flat rectangle of turf. We design the base shaping during the layout process, and it is one of the upgrade options available on top of the standard putting surface.
