Why Go Multi-Level?
Solve Sloped Yards
A multi-level deck turns a steep, unusable hillside into functional outdoor living space. Each tier is flat, accessible, and purpose-built.
Defined Outdoor Rooms
Separate cooking, dining, and lounging zones without walls. One level for the grill, another for the fire pit, another for morning coffee.
Maximize Views
Stacked decks step down with the terrain, opening sightlines over railings. Perfect for East Tennessee homes with mountain or lake views.

Frequently Asked
When does a backyard actually need a multi-level deck instead of a single-level one?+
Multi-level decks make the most sense on sloped or hillside lots where a single flat deck either cannot reach far enough from the house or would need an enormous, expensive amount of fill and footing to level out. Stepping the deck down in tiers follows the natural grade instead of fighting it, which is often both more affordable and more usable than one massive elevated platform.
How much more does a multi-level deck cost than a single-level deck?+
A second tier is an upgrade available at our premium elevation deck tier, which runs $35,000 to $60,000, compared to $15,000 to $30,000 for a standard single-level composite deck. The exact premium depends on how much additional framing, footings, and stairs the second level requires for your specific slope.
How steep does my yard need to be to justify a multi-level deck?+
There is no hard cutoff; it comes down to how much elevation change you are working with and what you want to do with the space. A modest slope might only need a couple of steps between levels, while a steep hillside lot can call for a fully engineered multi-tier structure. We assess your actual grade during the consultation and recommend the simplest design that solves the problem, not the most expensive one.
Does a multi-level deck need more complex footings than a single-level deck?+
Yes. Each level needs its own properly engineered footings below the frost line, and on a sloped lot the footing design gets more involved because the ground elevation is changing across the structure. We size and place every footing to code and to your specific soil and grade, and we handle the permit and inspections that go with it.
