The indoor pool at The Inn at Christmas Place drained the wrong way, back toward the water. To fix it for good, we raised the entire pool about three inches, then rebuilt the room on top of it.

The Challenge
The deck was pitched toward the pool instead of away from it, so every splash, every mop bucket, and every drip ran straight back into the water. Underneath, the slab was cracking and the plumbing leaked behind the walls. In a resort where the pool room is part of the show, it had quietly become the room nobody wanted to photograph.
What We Did
Most crews would have ground the high spots, skim-coated the deck, and called the drainage fixed, and it would have failed again within a season. We took the hard route: we physically raised the entire pool about three inches so the new deck finally had somewhere to send the water, away from the pool and into new drains. Everything that came after was built on top of a room that finally worked the way it should.
From Vision to Reality
Demo
Everything came out. We broke up all of the old pool-area concrete, cut in for a new deck drain system, and opened the walls to reach the plumbing leaks that had been hiding behind them for years.
Raise & Re-Plumb
The part nobody sees and everybody feels. We raised the pool roughly three inches to re-pitch the deck, tied the new drains across the deck and into the bathrooms, repaired the plumbing, and shot a fresh pebble finish inside the pool and spa.
Finish
Travertine decking went down with a burnt-clay border, new coping and waterline tile framed the water, and new lighting brought the room up. We built custom steps into the spa and carried the same travertine through the bathrooms, so the whole space finally reads as one room.
